Wednesday favorites – Kermit and Debbie Harry

Wednesdays seem like a great day of the week to share some of my favorite videos from the past and hopefully bring a little spring into your mid-week step. This video brings back some very fond memories of elementary school at Eisenhower in Boulder, singing with our music teacher Mrs. Whitney. I feel so fortunate to have been offered music classes with a wonderful teacher in those formative years – and my heart breaks for all of the kids growing up today without that privilege. Hopefully they have access to a computer and can tune in to some of the greats that left an impression on me.

What songs influenced you as a kid?

Keep singing and keep sharing it with the kids around you!!!

Halloween Fun with Basho & Friends

Grab your costume and come on down to dance to the beats of BASHO & Friends Saturday, October 29, from 9 to 11 a.m.

BM_CDBABY_PROFILE 2Saturday’s show will feature a mixture of Spanish and English songs, supported by a Halloween theme throughout, said founder Basho Mosko, father of an 18-month-old son. Mosko started BASHO & Friends in 2009, creating music videos and compact discs in English, Spanish, French and Mandarin that teach everything from the alphabet to self-esteem.

He will be joined by his business partner and friend Ben Lybrand as the DJ and Tommy Shepherd as the beatboxer. Rap is part of their repertoire, but BASHO music spans the spectrum from bouncy pop to country twang, all with a positive message, says Mosko.

His own experience spans the education spectrum, covering more than 15 years in the classroom as a credentialed bilingual teacher, writing for Sesame Street and Lango foreign language education company and starting an arts-based afterschool program for elementary school children in Oakland.

Mosko likes to tell a story, and his lyrics don’t talk down to children.

“It’s very accessible,” said Mosko, who works in Cisco Systems’ corporate philanthropic department helping nonprofits structure their own compelling stories.

Tot Rock is sponsored by the Friends of Noe Valley Recreation Center through community donations. All families with children under the age of 5 welcome. Thanks to Brad from the neighborhood who volunteered to greet people as they came to the concert, and you can, too! Where it all started

I always loved singing as a kid and it started when I was really young.  Here I was probably 3 1/2 and singing as part of the Mosko family band. Have you heard this one before?

I had my own interpretation of the lyrics :)

Oh, I went to the donut shop to buy me a treat

Cause I was so hungry from my head to my feet

So I reached in my pocket, I reached down deep

And I handed the lady a 5 cent piece

Oh. . .she looked at the nickel and she looked at me

And she said “Hey mister can’t you plainly see?”

“There’s a hole in the nickel, there’s a hole right through” So said I, “Theres a hole in the donut too!”

Fond memories
